CT Scanner Shielding

Radiation shielding needs for CT scan rooms depend on many variables such as patient workload, size of room, adjacent area use and status and other concerns.

HPNW will verify all clinical and design parameters so that the recommended radiation shielding is specifically designed for the room. NCRP Guidelines and restrictive allowable dose limits are used to ensure a safe working environment and regulatory compliance.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Do different CT machines and models have different shielding needs?

Shielding in CT is dependent on many variables including the radiation output characteristics if the specific machine and model.

Do floor and ceilings need shielding?

Floors and ceiling are barriers to radiation, just like the walls and may need shielding. The lead equivalency of concrete in these barriers will eliminate or reduce the shielding needed.
